I am an import to Alberta as are most of the people you might meet in Calgary. My Heritage stems from Ontario where I was raised. In 1976, I discovered the famous Calgary Stampede while living in Toronto. This is an event that I scoffed at for many years of my youth, thinking as other easterners did, that Calgary was full of country bumpkins, stranded at some Prairie whistle stop lost from the 18th century. After my 2nd Stampede I was sold and moved to Calgary very shortly afterward.
Well, it has taken 30 years for the world to find out just how sophisticated Calgary really has become. However, I am still certain that many Easterners are still stuck in the past with the same opinions and little or no interest to see other parts of Canada. They have been at the center of their Universe for so long, that to adventure past their security zone, being the provincial borders is nearly beyond comprehension. The sense of adventure is not a large commodity in my heritage home. This I know! I was raised in that culture! Oh well, some people take a lifetime to find paradise. I hope they will.
